Study competition concluded

03.04.2025 | Zugerberg Bahn AG organised a study competition for the restaurant building at the Zugerberg Bahn mountain station. The winning project has been chosen and will be presented to the general public.

For many, a visit to the Zugerberg restaurant is simply part of a trip to Zug's local mountain. The location right next to the mountain station with its marvellous view of Zug, Lake Zug and the sunset is unique. The building is now getting on in years, which is why a new concept is urgently needed. As part of the Montana/Zugerberg development plan, Zugerberg Bahn AG was therefore commissioned to organise a further study competition to determine what a new building could look and feel like.

High-quality architectural competition

A high-calibre jury of experts selected the winning project "New Icon" by the renowned architectural firm "Staufer & Hasler Architekten" from Frauenfeld from a total of four submissions. "The name says it all with this project," says Chairman of the Board of Directors Urs Raschle. "New Icon - everything under one roof offers the iconic above the rooftops of Zug". The jury was particularly impressed by the design of the floating structure and the choice of materials for the various components - concrete, steel and wood. An important milestone was reached with the competition and the selection of the winning project. The next steps are now being worked out.

Exhibition for the general public

The winning project and the other studies are on public display in the Zugerberg restaurant and can be viewed on Saturday, 5 April from 10 am to 7 pm. Travelling by public transport is recommended.
