Update on the cancellation of the Zugerberg railway due to storms
29.07.2021 | As a result of the storm on Sunday, 25 July 2021, the Zugerberg Railway will be cancelled for several weeks, but the Zugerberg will remain accessible via replacement buses. These will run every hour, with limited capacity. The Schönegg area in Zug was hit hard by the storm. An initial assessment now shows the extent of the damage. Among other things, the valley station of the Zugerberg railway and a railway carriage were badly damaged. The railway track was also damaged by debris flows.
Water and debris entered the premises of the valley station. As a result, the infrastructure was partially destroyed. In some cases, the affected railway carriage has to be dismantled into individual parts in order to be returned to service in perfect condition. The track has also been buried in places by several debris flows. Experts will soon be analysing these damaged areas and their repair, as well as examining the entire track in detail. The repair of the infrastructure and further clarifications will take time. The Zugerberg railway will therefore certainly remain out of service for several weeks.
During this time, Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe (ZVB) will be running replacement buses from the Schönegg valley station via Zug Burgbach to the Zugerberg station, thus ensuring accessibility to the Zugerberg. We ask the public and guests for their understanding that capacity is limited during this time and that bike transport is unfortunately not possible.
Information on the timetable is available at www.zbb.ch/fahrplan.
